Trove recently celebrated its one year anniversary, but like most Trion Worlds games that simply means that new features and expansions are headed its way. The club worlds start out as one zone but can be expanded with the use of terraformers. These club worlds are entirely player created and can only be modified by players belonging to its club. Each club has its own world, and the club world can be accessed through a portal. Creating a saved world that can be revisited can be done by joining a club. Minecraft is all about creating your own world and sharing it with your friends, where MMOs generally involve killing and looting things in a large world with friends. It seems like a weird combination but after giving it some thought it seems like such a natural blending of genres. Trove shamelessly flaunts its influence, but has used that to construct an MMO where a fantasy story driven adventure exists in a world that the players are free to build and destroy. The great thing about these new and upcoming voxel games is that they do not simply try to recreate the open world building sandbox approach of that other game, but instead take the general premise and incorporate it into a different type of experience. Games that feature interactive voxel environments seem to have become rather popular things after the success of some game that rhymes with spine graft.
